The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), organized the “FPK Healthy Exercise” program as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering a healthy, collaborative, and sustainable working culture within the faculty. The initiative brought together lecturers and administrative staff in a shared space of physical activity and social interaction, reinforcing solidarity while supporting long-term academic productivity. Through this activity, FPK UNAIR demonstrated that human resource well-being is a strategic foundation for advancing education, research, and community engagement in the fields of fisheries and marine sciences.

The FPK Healthy Exercise event was held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the courtyard of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Campus C Mulyorejo, Surabaya. Beginning in the early morning, the program featured a collective exercise session led by Dwi Yuli Pujiastuti, S.Pi., M.P., a lecturer at FPK UNAIR. The session was designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and overall physical endurance among participants. These interactive activities were structured to create equal and inclusive engagement, encouraging cross-functional collaboration between academic and non-academic staff. By integrating physical exercise with team-based interaction, the program addressed both physical health and psychosocial well-being, creating a balanced approach to workplace wellness.

Approximately 50 participants, consisting of lecturers and administrative staff, took part in the activity. The high level of participation reflected the enthusiasm of the academic community for non-formal programs that support physical health and workplace harmony. More importantly, the initiative aligned with the principles of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening internal partnerships within the faculty. Through collaborative engagement and collective participation, FPK UNAIR reinforced a culture of unity and shared responsibility. Indirectly, the activity also supports SDG 1: No Poverty, by contributing to a safe, healthy, and productive work environment for human resources, which is essential for sustainable institutional performance. Healthy and motivated personnel are better positioned to contribute effectively to academic excellence and institutional development.

The health of lecturers and administrative staff plays a strategic role in sustaining the university’s tridharma mission—education, research, and community service. A supportive and healthy work environment enables academic staff to perform optimally in research and innovation, particularly in areas related to sustainable fisheries and marine ecosystems. These research domains are closely connected to SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 13: Climate Action, both of which are core thematic focuses of FPK UNAIR. By maintaining physical and mental well-being, faculty members can enhance their capacity to develop scientific solutions addressing marine resource management, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability. In this way, workplace wellness initiatives become indirectly linked to broader global development agendas and institutional research priorities.

Beyond physical activity, the FPK Healthy Exercise program functioned as a social platform that fostered informal communication across units. Such interaction helps break down hierarchical barriers, encourages openness, and cultivates a collaborative work atmosphere. The primary objective of the program was to improve physical fitness while strengthening harmonious professional relationships among lecturers and administrative staff. Additionally, the initiative aligns with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, particularly in the context of strengthening human resource resilience. Individuals who are physically and mentally healthy are better equipped to contribute to sustainable food systems and fisheries development—key academic focuses of FPK UNAIR. Participants reported direct benefits, including improved physical fitness, reduced work-related stress, and a stronger sense of collegiality. In the long term, programs of this nature contribute to enhanced productivity, improved mental health, and higher-quality academic services. Through this simple yet impactful initiative, FPK UNAIR reaffirms its commitment to supporting the contextual implementation of SDGs 1, 2, 13, 14, and 17. Strengthening human capital remains a fundamental pillar in realizing sustainable higher education and achieving global competitiveness.
