On August 31, 2024, the Fishery Product Technology Student Association (HIMATEKHIKAN) of Universitas Airlangga conducted an industrial visit to PT Bumi Menara Internusa (BMI) in Dampit. This visit aims to provide students with in-depth insight into the seafood processing industry, especially processing technology and waste management in the company.

Welcomed by the management representatives of PT BMI, the students were introduced to the profile of the company, which has become one of the largest seafood producers in Indonesia. In addition, students were also introduced to various operational aspects of the fisheries industry, ranging from sorting processes, fish processing, to environmentally friendly waste management. Students were very enthusiastic when they learned that modern processing technology is applied at every stage of production to maintain the quality of export-ready products.

Cutting-edge technologies such as Individual Quick Freezing (IQF) used by PT BMI caught the students’ attention. They were impressed how this technology is able to keep the fish fresh without damaging its quality, which is important in the export-quality seafood processing industry.

This visit is expected to give students new insights into the fisheries industry process and open their eyes to various career opportunities in this sector, especially at PT. BMI which is actively recruiting professionals in the field of fishery product technology.
