Encouraging Social Awareness Through Collaborative Action
The AQUACARE 2025 initiative was designed as a form of student-driven social responsibility, aligning with HIMAKUA’s vision to not only excel academically but also contribute meaningfully to society. Collaborating with the WEPOSE social community, the event encouraged students to engage directly with children from marginalized backgrounds, promoting empathy and care through education and interactive learning.
This collaboration demonstrated the importance of inter-organizational synergy, where both student organizations and social communities can exchange resources, teaching methods, and experiences. Through this initiative, HIMAKUA reaffirmed its role as a bridge between academic knowledge and community welfare—an essential aspect of higher education’s contribution to sustainable social impact.
Interactive Learning and Educational Activities
Held from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB, AQUACARE 2025 featured a series of engaging educational activities. The event began with an opening session led by the master of ceremonies, followed by welcoming remarks from the AQUACARE program coordinator and representatives of WEPOSE Keputran.
The activities continued with a “Guess Who I Am” game, where children filled in missing letters on cards decorated with marine animal images. This was followed by an introduction to marine ecosystems, teaching participants about the importance of ocean conservation and the diversity of marine species.
Next, a focus group discussion (FGD) session allowed the children to explore and discuss the topics presented earlier. The event proceeded with the “Super Family 100” game—a fun guessing challenge where participants identified marine animals based on clues. At the end of the program, prizes and snack packages were distributed to the WEPOSE children, made possible through HIMAKUA’s open donation campaign and sponsorship. The event concluded with a certificate handover to WEPOSE representatives as a symbol of gratitude and collaboration.
Cultivating Empathy and Character Through Service
The success of AQUACARE 2025 highlighted the importance of nurturing empathy and social responsibility among students. The Department of Social Affairs and Community Service HIMAKUA emphasized that students should not only strive for academic excellence but also develop a sense of humanity, care, and contribution to their communities.
Through continuous social engagement, HIMAKUA aims to build character-driven leaders capable of applying academic knowledge in real-world contexts. The event’s motto—“Care, Share, and Inspire”—perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the day, encouraging participants to see education as a means of empowerment and kindness.
Ultimately, AQUACARE 2025 served as more than a community service project—it became a reflection of HIMAKUA’s dedication to education, compassion, and collaboration in advancing social well-being within Surabaya and beyond.
