On Friday, August 8, 2025, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), held the “Perikanan Juara” (Championing Fisheries) program, one of the flagship initiatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the 2025 Student Executive Board (BEM FPK). This event aimed to introduce students to the various Faculty Activity Units (UKF), Semi-Autonomous Bodies (BSO), and student communities within the Faculty as platforms for developing interests and talents. The program also sought to foster a strong sense of solidarity, sportsmanship, and leadership among students, encouraging holistic development both inside and outside the classroom.
The “Perikanan Juara” program was organized in conjunction with the New Student Orientation and Student Day activities. The day began at 6:30 a.m. with attendance registration, followed by an energizing morning exercise and breakfast shared among new students and the academic community. Afterward, participants embarked on a campus tour (safari kampus) and explored various displays from UKF, BSO, and student communities. Each organization creatively designed its booth to showcase its programs, achievements, and opportunities, making the event lively and interactive.
The activities continued until 11:00 a.m., drawing enthusiastic participation from more than 270 new students of FPK UNAIR. Throughout the event, interactions between new students and student organizations were engaging and productive. Students were encouraged to ask questions, hold discussions, and register for UKF, BSO, or community memberships according to their personal interests and talents. This experience not only allowed them to explore extracurricular opportunities but also nurtured a sense of belonging and collaboration within the faculty environment.
In alignment with FPK UNAIR’s commitment to shaping well-rounded graduates, the program required interested students to participate in an internship phase within their chosen organizations. This step ensures that students can deeply understand the mission, values, and culture of each unit, strengthening their engagement and sense of responsibility. Through “Perikanan Juara,” FPK UNAIR once again demonstrated its dedication to fostering an active, creative, and collaborative academic atmosphere—one that prepares students not only as competent professionals in fisheries and marine sciences but also as future leaders who embody the values of solidarity and innovation.
