Alumni of the Aquaculture Undergraduate Program (S1) at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK Unair), visited the FPK campus on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. These alumni, currently working at PT. Suri Tani Pemuka (STP), oversee several operational areas in Indonesia, including Bali, Nusra, and Java, marking a significant step in bridging industry experience with academic engagement.
The visit was attended by FPK’s Dean, Vice Deans 1 and 2, Head of Alumni and Student Affairs Subdivision, the alumni coordinator, and faculty members responsible for student programs. During the meeting, Dean Prof. Amin emphasized the importance of fostering synergy between alumni and the university. He highlighted that such collaboration could be developed through intellectual contributions, industry networks, and mentorship programs that advance students’ academic and professional growth.
Alumni engagement provides multifaceted benefits to the university. Beyond enhancing educational experiences, it strengthens the institution’s reputation, creates career opportunities for students, and fosters a competitive academic environment. By actively participating in mentoring programs and sharing practical industry insights, alumni serve as role models who bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application. Prof. Amin stressed that this collaborative model can cultivate a dynamic learning environment that motivates students to innovate and excel.
The alumni shared their experiences managing operations in diverse regions of Indonesia, including Bali, Nusra, and Java. They discussed challenges and strategies in aquaculture management, emphasizing sustainability, technological innovation, and resource optimization. Such insights provide valuable feedback to FPK’s curriculum development, helping the faculty align its academic programs with current industry standards and emerging trends. The interaction also offered students a unique opportunity to learn directly from professionals who were once in their position, fostering inspiration and practical guidance.
This visit exemplifies the continuous effort by FPK Unair to connect education with industry. By maintaining strong ties with alumni, the faculty ensures that its graduates remain competitive, adaptable, and well-equipped to contribute to Indonesia’s aquaculture sector. Collaborative initiatives like this not only support student development but also reinforce the university’s mission to advance national education and industry standards. Prof. Amin concluded that alumni-university synergy is pivotal for nurturing a skilled workforce and creating a sustainable academic ecosystem that can drive national progress.
